ABSTRAK
Jumlah populasi penyandang disabilitas di Indonesia cenderung meningkat
dari tahun ke tahun, dimana disabilitas yang paling banyak dialami adalah disabilitas
kaki. Sebanyak 74% dari penyandang disabilitas tidak memiliki pekerjaan. Salah satu
sektor industri yang menyerap tenaga kerja dan memungkinkan untuk penyandang
disabilitas daksa kaki adalah industri garmen. Pada prakteknya ditemukan
permasalahan dalam hal pengoperasian mesin jahit dimana disabilitas daksa kaki
kesulitan menjangkau pedal mesin jahit.
Penelitian ini akan membahas perancangan usulan desain alat bantu
pengoperasian mesin jahit bagi penyandang disabilitas daksa kaki. Metode
perancangan yang diterapkan adalah metode Ulrich-Eppinger. Perancangan alat
Bantu pengoperasian mesin jahit bagi penyandang disabilitas dilakukan sampai tahap
pemilihan konsep.
Dari hasil pengolahan data diperoleh dua usulan desain alat bantu yaitu
alternatif pertama berupa tambahan pedal yang diletakkan di pedal mesin jahit dan
alternatif kedua berupa alat bantu untuk menjangkau pedal mesin jahit yang
dipasangkan pada pengguna.

ABSTRACT
Total population of persons with disabilities in Indonesia tends to increase
from year to year, in which the most is a leg disability. As many as 74% of persons
with disabilities do not have jobs. One of the industries that provide employment and
allow for physically disabled persons with leg disabilities is a garment industry. In
practice, found the problem in terms to operate the sewing machine. The physical
disabilities can’t to reach the control pedal of sewing machine.
This research will discuss about designing the propose assistive tool design to
operate sewing machine for the leg disabilities. Design method applied is a method
by Ulrich-Eppinger (2001). Designing assistive tool to operate a sewing machine for
persons with disabilities until the concept selection phase.
The result from this research are two proposes assistive tool design. The first
alternative is the additional pedal that is placed on the pedal sewing machine. And
the second alternative is the assistive tool used on user’s leg to reach the pedal of
sewing machine.
