ABSTRACT
Peat soil is known to have a largepore value and high water content, thus it has a very low bearing capacity and compressibility. This needed improvement in order to increase the bearing capacity and reduce compressibility when burdened.Chemical stabilization is one improvement method commonly used. In this research, brick powder is used the additive material.
This research was conducted in the laboratory using consolidation testto determine the effect of brick powder with respect to consolidation parameters (Cc and Cvvalues). Brick powder additive variations of 0 % , 3 % , 5 % , 7 % , 9 % , 11 % , 13 % and 15 %where tested accordingly with curing time of 24 hours.
The results showed an increase ofimprovement parameter in the soil stabilizationof peat soil. This can be seen in the decline of Ccvalueby 0.12and an increase of Cvvalue by 0.003cm2/sec. The highest optimal variation was obtained on the additive 11 % of brick powder, with a Ccvalue of0.113and Cvvalue of0.035 cm2/sec.
