ABSTRACT

 Samsu Widya Resti. 2015. A Correlational Study on Habit in Watching 
English Movie, Self-Efficacy, and Writing Skill of the Tenth Grade Students
of SMK PGRI Wonoasri in the Academic Year of 2015/2016. English
Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret
University. Surakarta. 2016.
 The objectives of the study are to determine the correlation between (1)
habit in watching English movie and writing skill; (2) self-efficacy and writing
skill; and (3) habit in watching English movie, self-efficacy, and writing skill; and
to predict the contribution of habit in watching English movie and self-efficacy
toward writing skill. 
This study used correlational study. It was carried out in April 2016 at
SMK PGRI Wonoasri. The population of this study was all the tenth grade
students of SMK PGRI Wonoasri which consists of nine classes. The total number
of the students was 260 students. The sample for this study was 22 students taken
by cluster random sampling technique. The instruments for collecting the data
were questionnaire and test. Questionnaire was used to collect the data of habit in
watching English movie and self-efficacy, while the test was used to collect the
data of writing skill. The techniques used to analyze the data were Simple and
Multiple Linear Regression and Correlation.
 The results of the data analysis show that at the level of significance α =
0.05 (1) there is a positive correlation between habit in watching English movie
and students’ writing skill (r

 According to the result of the study, it is found that there is a positive
correlation between habit in watching English movie and students’ writing skill;
there is a positive correlation between self-efficacy and students’ writing skill; and
there is a positive correlation between habit in watching English movie, selfefficacy

simultaneously and students’ writing skill of the tenth grade students of
SMK PGRI Wonoasri in the academic year of 2015/2016.
 The result of the study shows that habit in watching English movie and
self-efficacy are predictors which give a contribution to students’ writing skill as
many as 88.58%. So, both habit in watching English movie and self-efficacy are
one of the important factors that should be considered in improving students’
writing skill.
