×The objectives of this research are (1) to investigate whether and to what extent guided writing improves the writing ability of the students; (2) to describe the teaching learning process when guided writing is implemented in teaching writing at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Banyudono. The research design used in this study is a classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research data were collected using qualitative and quantitative technique. Technique of collecting data using qualitative technique can be divided into two categories: (1) observational (observation, diaries, audio recording, transcriptions and photographs). (2) non-observational (interview and document). While the technique of collecting data using quantitative technique was obtained from the writing test that consists of pre-test and post-test. The technique of analyzing the data is qualitative one consisting of assembling the data, coding the data, comparing the data, building interpretation and reporting the outcomes. The quantitative data were analyzed by the result of the test (the comparing of mean score of pre-test and post-test). The result of this research showed that (1) the implementation of guided writing can improve the students’ writing skill. It can be seen from the improvement of the students’ score. From the written test, the students’ pre-test mean score is 2.41, which improves to 2.85 in post-test 1 and improves to 3.13 in post-test 2; (2) the implementation of guided writing gives good impact in the class situation. Guided writing changes the class situation to be more active and interactive. Guided writing can also attract the students to join the teaching learning process
