Abstrak : ABSTRACT This is a qualitative linguistics descriptive and comparative research of scientists opinion concerning the Hamas victory in Palestinian legislative Election based on Systemic Functional. The main purpose of the research is to describe and to compare the register, the genre, and the ideology of three texts and finally to know the similarities and differences of the texts. The data sources were the scientists opinion from Reflections of In the World columns in TIME magazine exposing the Hamas victory published on February 6, 2006. In this case, the researcher employed total sampling since all aspects of lexicogrammar system, cohesion system, text structure, and Generic Structure Potential was considered as data. The data were further observed and analyzed by interpreting the register, genre and ideology and finally were discussed to find out the similarities and differences of the texts. The interpretation of register explores three aspects, namely field, tenor and mode. The interpretation of field shows that the three texts have similar issue. The writer of the first text talks about his expectancy toward Hamas in order to focus more on domestic issues or Palestinian side. The writer of the second text talks about the continued of the peace process between Israel-Palestine. The writer of the third text talks about the impact of Hamas victory. The interpretation of tenor notes that the status between the writer of all texts and Hamas is unequal and the status between the writer of all texts and the reader is equal. The judgement of the writer of the first and the second text to Hamas is positive, while the judgement of the writer of the third text is negative. The contact indicates that the readers are uninvolved. Moreover, all texts show highly-familiarity for the readers. The third aspect of register, mode, signs that the first and the second text tends to be spoken, while the third text tends to be spoken-written. Further, the analysis of genre concludes that the texts have same genre. The first and the second text employ exposition genre. The existence of one point of view that support Hamas implies that the writer have Right Antagonist ideology. Likewise, the third text employs exposition genre. However, the aim of the text to challenge Hamas implies that the writer is in the left side. In conclusion, the third text employs Left Antagonist ideology.
