This study is a research and development which is intended : 1) to describe the existing writing materials for the twelfth year students of Acceleration program of MAN 1 Tulungagung ;2).to develop supplementary materials for teaching writing in the twelfth year students of Acceleration Program at MAN1 Tulungagung based on the genre approach in writing. 3) to describe the feasibility of the supplementary materials for the twelfth year students of Acceleration program of MAN1 Tulungagung
Research method used in this study is research and development (R&D) which is aimed to do research and to produce a certain product completed with the effectiveness evaluation of the product. There are two stages that will be done in this research. Both are exploration and product development. Exploration consits of need analysis, literature analysis, document analysis and planing. The objective of the stage is to collect information from the students and teacher related to the problem in writing and the students? need that is used to know about students and teacher?s perspective of writing material, besides, to get information about the existing of the product, then the information was used as consideration on the next step that is planning of material development.The development consists of many stages. They are : a). Prototype Development b). Expert Validation c). Main field Testing (Try out of product) d). Product Revision. The purposes of the stage are to develop the prototype and to get its feseability. To get the theoretical feasibility of the product, the researcher invited two experts to validate. Then, to get practical feasibility, the researher conducted try out of the product to the students.The data obtained through questionnaire, interview, observation and forum group discussion (FGD) .
The product development is Genre-Based Writing Material for the Twelfth Year Students of Acceleration Program of MAN 1 Tulungagung in the form of writing module under the tilled Let?s Write Discussion Text Easily. This module was arranged based on genre approach. This module was evaluated based on some aspect s, they are objectives, topics, organization, content, coverage, language, instruction, example, exercises and foolproof. This module was developed in line with the prototype which has consulted to the reviewer. After being tried out , the researcher doing FGD which resulted revisions for a better module. Then to know the feasibility of the module , researcher doing interview with an English teacher and some students, beside distributing questionnaires to the students. The English teacher and students have positive response toward the module.
