ABSTRACT

Objective: To find out the relationship between cesarean delivery method and the baby blues syndrome incidence.

Type and Design: observational analytic study with case-control approach.

Material and Method: The data were retrieved from medical records at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Moewardi Hospital in June to September 2013. Subjects who met the criteria were 49, consisted of 20 subjects of cesarean section and 29 subjects of normal delivery, they filled the biodata. Researchers filled out a questionnaire study on the relationship between cesarean delivery method with the baby blues syndrome incidence. Recorded and processed of data.

Results and Discussion: Bivariate analysis methods of delivery with the baby blues showed that the incidence of delivery by cesarean section on baby blues occur as many as 15 subjects (75%), and  non baby blues by 5 subjects (25%). Whereas in spontaneous delivery that occur baby blues shows as many as 10 subjects (34.5%) and non baby blues were 19 subjects (65.5%). Statistical analysis found OR = 5.7 with P = 0.005 (<0.005). It shows the risk of cesarean section deliveries to mothers with baby blues syndrome experienced significantly greater compared with spontaneous delivery.

Conclusions: Significantly there is a relationship between cesarean delivery method with the baby blues syndrome incidence
