ABSTRACT

This research was conducted to analyze the anger expression uttered by Edward in original (English) and translated (Bahasa Indonesia) versions of Twilight novel. In English version, the speech act of Edward’s anger expression utterances  is  analyzed  to  find  out  the  speech  act  classification.  In  Bahasa Indonesia version, the use of translation technique in Edward’s anger expression utterances is analyzed to find out the technique and the impact of the technique used on the translation quality.
This research used descriptive qualitative method. The sources of data are determined by criterion-based sampling. The sources of data in this research are Twilight novel in both English and Bahasa Indonesia versions and informants. The data in this research are all Edward’s anger expression utterances and the questionnaire results. There are 71 data which were analyzed to reveal the speech act classification, translation technique, and the impact of technique used on the translation quality.
The results of this research are first, Edward’s anger expression utterances apply  four  speech  acts;  Representatives,  Directives,  Expressives,  and Commissives. Second, Edward’s anger expression utterances apply 11 translation techniques; Established Equivalent, Variation, Literal, Modulation, Explicitation, Implicitation, Pure Borrowing, Addition, Transposition, Compensation, and Linguistic Amplification. Third, the accuracy, acceptability, readability based on the impact of translation technique is 2.96.
