SUMMARY

The development of food processing industry supported by natural resources of agriculture, both vegetable and animal can produce various processed products that can be made and developed from local or regional natural resources. In Indonesia, there are many agricultural processing industries, one of which is the soybean processing industry. Madagascar has big potential for soybean production. However nowadays, there is a decline in production due to lack of product processing and marketing knowledge. The promotion of this commodity help to contribute to food security and to fight against malnutrition and poverty by improving the income of the. Soybean is rich in protein and its price is significantly low compared to other sources of protein such as meat and fish. This study was conducted in Surakarta City since “tempe” represent a quite important Industry in that area of Java Island. Sub-district Jebres, (Kelurahan Mojosonggo) has been chosen as location to collect the primary data. After years, the villagers in this area had formed a small community of Tahu and Tempe producers. In this study the primary data was obtained through direct interviews in the field using a structured questionnaires. Primary data sources are soybean tempe producers from Surakarta city. Secondary data is data obtained from agency or institution related to this research both in Indonesia and in Madagascar. For the data analysis, first, a situation analysis using the matrix SWOT was conducted in order to understand the future environment of the business in Madagascar. Then a Business Analysis was conducted in Surakarta City to get more informations and to get more detail about the cost and revenue engaged in the production of soybean tempe. Then an analysis of the added value was conducted in order to deduct the percentage of each input involved in the production of Soybean Tempe, that percentage was later one used as base for the future cost and revenue engaged for the business in Madagascar. Then a financial feasibility analysis was done to determine the feasibility of the business in Madagascar. Finally, an analyze of the market acceptance in term of price and an analyze of the salary acceptance was engaged to complete the feasibility analysis. The results of the analyze conducted in Surakarta City reveal that in average, each tempe industry spend Rp 13.801.335 to cover the average total cost but can generate an average revenue of Rp 15.917.067 from the sell. The analysis of added value gave the projection of cost in Madagascar by using the local price of raw materials. The efficiency as well as the profitability value are almost the same for Indonesia and Madagascar. The net present values are positive from both country and the internal rate of return as well is higher than the rate of discount. The situation analysis, the result of price comparison, the market acceptance in term of price and the Salary aspect highlight that the if the business of soybean tempe would be launched in Madagascar, then it will be profitable and will generate good revenue.
