Introductions : 

Cerebral pasly (CP) is a chronic disorder of movement and posture. It is the result of a non-progressive damage of the immature nervous system caused by several factors that have occurred in prenatal, perinatal or postnatal periods. It is one of the most common causes motor disability in children and frequently is associated with epilepsy.

Objective : 

The goal of this study was to describe the clinical types, EEG findings, and associated factors of epileptic and non-epileptic children with cerebral palsy.

Patients and Methods : 

The subjects of the study were 82 patients who were diagnosed as having CP between Januari 2014 – Desember 2017 in DR. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. A total of 82 consecutive patients with cerebral palsy were retrospectively studied. 

Results : 

Tetraplegic CP had higher insidence 75.6% in epileptic CP and 53.7% in non epileptic CP. EEG was confirmed abnormal in epileptic CP as 87.8% with the common was focal epileptiform activity (60.9%). The statistically significant correlation between global delayed development with epileptic CP (p=0.006) and also infections with epileptic CP (p=0.026). First seizured occurred during the first year of life in 75.6% of patients with epilepic CP. The subjects in epileptic group used more than 1 antiepileptic drugs in 19.5% and the most common antiepileptic drug was valproate acid.

Conclusions : 

Cerebral palsy is associated with a higher incidence of epilepsy, which, in majority, has its abnormality in EEG findings.
