Abstrak

The objectives of this study is to find out and describe about (1) teacher’s belief about Grammar Translation Method in English teaching learning activity and (2) the practice, realization, and the factor of teacher’s belief about Grammar Translation Method in English teaching learning activity.
This research was a qualitative study. The subjects was an English teacher of a  vocational senior high school in Surakarta. The data in form of narration and information were collected through observation and interview. The findings showed that the teacher beliefs and fully understand about Grammar Translation Method. Teacher defines Grammar Translation Method as a method to studying grammar in sentences or texts by translating the sentences or texts to make the studying of grammar can be understood by the students easier. Teacher implementing Grammar Translation Method in her English teaching learning activity based on her belief of Grammar Translation Method. In teacher’s English teaching learning activity, teacher not fully implementing Grammar Translation Method based on her belief because several factors. Factors that affect teacher implementation of her beliefs of Grammar Translation Method were time limitation and the material that will be taught.
