Abstrak

This research focuses on analyzing translation techniques applied in translating forensic pathology terms in the subtitle of Bones: Season 09 and their impact on translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability and readability. The purposes of this research are: 1) to find out the techniques used by translator in translating forensic pathology terms found in the subtitle of Bones: Season 09; and 2) to find out the impact of the techniques used in translating forensic pathology terms found in the subtitle of Bones: Season 09 on the accuracy, acceptability and readability of the translation.
     This research applied descriptive qualitative research. The data were forensic pathology terms in the forms of noun and noun phrase. There were 94 data of forensic pathology terms in the forms of noun and noun phrase found in the data source. The other data were translation quality assessments done by the informants. The data source of this research is the subtitle of Bones: Season 09, its translation in Indonesian and also raters and respondents. All of the informants were chosen by purposive sampling technique.
The translation techniques analysis shows that there are 15 translation techniques applied by the translator in singles and combinations, which are: 1.) established equivalent, 2.) established equivalent combined with amplification, 3.) established equivalent combined with pure borrowing, 4.) established equivalent combined with literal translation, 5.) established equivalent combined with amplification and pure borrowing, 6.) literal translation, 7.) established equivalent combined with naturalized borrowing, 8.) established equivalent combined with transposition, 9.) amplification combined literal translation, 10.) naturalized borrowing, 11.) established equivalent combined with amplification and literal translation, 12.) established equivalent combined with generalization, 13.) established equivalent combined with particularization, 14.) established equivalent combined reduction, and 15.) amplification and naturalized borrowing.
The translation quality analysis shows that 82 data (87.24%) are accurate, 10 data (10.64%) are less accurate and 2 data (2.12%) are inaccurate; in terms of acceptability, 80 data (85.11%) are acceptable, 12 data (12.77%) are less acceptable and 2 data (2.12%) are unacceptable; and in terms of readability, 48 data (51.07%) are readable, 35 data (37.23%) are less readable and 11 data (11.7%) are unreadable.
Techniques which produce translations with high level of accuracy, acceptability and readability are single established equivalent and established equivalent in combination with amplification. Technique which produces translations with low level of accuracy and acceptability is literal translation. Techniques producing low level of readability are single established equivalent and established equivalent in combination with pure borrowing.
