Abstrak

This research is aimed to: (1) investigate the extent the textbook “Bahasa Inggris Kelas X SMA/MA/SMK/MAK” potentially facilitates the implementation of scientific approach based on Curriculum 2013. (2) investigate the expected roles of teacher and students in teaching and learning process according to the textbook “Bahasa Inggris Kelas X SMA/MA/SMK/MAK”. The government published the textbook to support the implementation of the curriculum 2013. Therefore, the textbook needs to be evaluated whether it is compatible or not to support the implementation of curriculum 2013.  
The research uses descriptive qualitative method, which refers to content analysis or documentary analysis. Descriptive qualitative research is a study used to describe and answer the matters of a phenomenon or event which happens in the present time.
The result of the research shows that (1) the textbook provides activities that agree with all of the scientific approach stages consisting of observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating. The scores of the compatibility of the textbook with scientific approach of curriculum 2013 make a total of 85%. (2) the textbook expects that students function as active learners and the teacher as a supervisor.
With total score of 85% the textbook is categorized as a very good textbook which can facilitate the implementation of scientific approach and the textbook expects students function as active learners and the teacher as a supervisor. However, eventhough the textbook is categorized as a very good textbook, it should always be used wisely as an instrument to help teachers, not as a guidance in teaching. The textbook should be evaluated in such period of time constantly.
