ABSTRACK

The objectives of the research are : (1) to find out the locutionary types of the utterances produced by the English teacher in the classroom interaction (2) to find out the purposes of the utterances produced by English teacher in the classroom interaction.

This is a descriptive, qualitative research. The techniques used to collect the data are interview, documents and observation. The techniques used to analyze the data cover data reduction & coding, data display and data analysis. The primary source of data in this research is the English teacher of marketing class. The observation was conducted in three meetings.
The research findings show that, first, the dominant locutionary type of the utterances produced by the English teacher is declarative (55% in percentage). Interrogative, imperative and ellipsis types are produced by the English teacher with percentage of 15%. Secondly, there are four illocutionary forces produced by the English teacher, covering directive, representative, expressive and commisive. Directive is the major illocutionary force produced by the English teacher (50% in percentage), while, commisive is the least illocutionary force uttered by the English teacher (10%). The other illocutionary forces, expressive, occurs in 25% while representative occurs in 15%.
