ABSTRACK
This study was conducted from February to July 2018. It applied a qualitative case study method. The sources of the data in this study were events, respondents, and documents. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted the observation, interview, and document analysis. The collected data were analyzed using the technique of qualitative data analysis which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verifying.

From the result of the observation, interview, and document analysis, it can be concluded that audiovisual media can encourage the learners’ involvement because it has diversity of viewpoints found in the media which guide the learners to show their participation forms. However, a good students’ learning environment is required to support them in the learning process because the good atmosphere in the classroom may increase participation of the students. Besides that, the other crucial aspect must be considered, namely: content, duration, and topic which are related to the other aspects in encouraging participation of students like learners’ characteristic, learners’ discussion friends, and teacher’s treatment. The study also finds that there are three stages of implementing audiovisual media in the classroom, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Moreover, adjustment of the material with audiovisual implemented by teacher need to be noticed. Forms of students’ participation in this research are asking the teacher to know or confirm the answer, the confirming teacher’s instruction, and having a discussion with friends

The findings interpret that the implementation of audiovisual media in the English learning process is effective to encourage learners’ participation. The good support from learning environment is required to optimize the implementation of audiovisual media; so the learners are encouraged to perform their involvement in the learning process.
