ABSTRACT

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILLS TROUGH SIMULATION TECHNIQUE (A Classroom Action Research at the Second Grade Students of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta in the Academic Year of 2016/2017), Thesis. Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, 2017.
The aims of this reserach are: (1) to know how does the use of Simulation Technique improve students speaking skill; and (2) to know how is the teaching learning process while Simulation Technique is applied in the classroom. The method used by the researcher was Classroom Action Research. The research data was collected by questionnaires, interview and observation. Technique of analyzing data of the research are qualitative and quantitative data and the researcher used triangulation to analyze the data. In quantitative data, the researcher used test which include in five criteria of speaking assesment such as: grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pronunciaton, task, and comprehension. After held the research, the researcher found that Simulation Technique can improve students’ speaking skill. The researcher also found that the classroom situation when Simulation Technique applied was improved it can be seen by the classroom condition was condusive and the students were participated actively in the teaching learning process.

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mengetahui bagaimana Simulation Technique mengembangkan kemampuan speaking siswa; dan (2) untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses belajar mengajar saat penerapan Simulation Technique. Metode peneletian yang digunakan peneliti adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Data penelitian diambil melalui kuesioner, wawancara, dan observasi. Teknik analisis datanya menggunakan kuantitatif dan kualitatif data yang dianalisis menggunakan triangulasi. Dalam data kuantitatif, peneliti menggunakan tes kemampuan speaking yang meliputi enam indikator, yaitu: grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pronunciation, comprehension dan task. Setelah melakukan penelitian, peneliti menemukan bahwa Simulation Technique dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Peneliti juga menemukan bahwa situasi kelas menjadi lebih baik dapat dilihat bahwa kelas menjadi kondusif dan siswa sangat aktif berpartisipasi.
