This research aims to analize: the types of indirect directive speech acts in movie entitled “Inside Out”, the background context of the indirect directive speech acts, and the frequency of the indirect directive speech acts. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The source of data for this research is the dialog between the main characters of the film entitled “Inside Out”. The sampling technique applied in this research is purposive sampling. The data were analyzed by using Thomas’ theory about factors of indirectness and classified by
using Allan’s directives speech acts theory. The researcher found 38 (61%) data of direct directives speech acts and 25 (39%) data of indirect directives speech acts. The characters often uttered the prohition and the requirement of indirect directives speech acts. Those types of directive take 40% of data. Moreover, the data show that the character who has
legitimate power over the others delivers the directives more often rather than other characters.
