Abstrak : ABSTRAK The research objective is to analyze the representation of Maduranese cultural identity in Radar Madura as well as the phenomenon behind the publication text by criticizing the effect of text production process and the social context beyond the media. This research that was conducted using qualitative research employed data constituting the publications in Radar Madura – Jawa Pos daily from July 1, 2005 to July 31, 2006 concerning the Maduranese cultural identity and the result of interview with editorial staff of Radar Madura – Jawa Pos daily. The data was collected using the technique of collecting data constituting critical discourse analysis and in-depth interview. A qualitative analysis on critical discourse in this research used was Norman Fairclough’s model of discourse text analysis. From the discourse analysis conducted, it is obtained the following result of research: Clurit as the artifact of Maduranese cultural identity is represented by Radar Madura as the manifestation of anarchism identity. With various forms of news writing strategy, the publication text of clurit and carok event furthermore functions more as the carrier of media economic political ideology than as the conveyor of clurit information as the artifact if maduranese cultural identity. The belief customary ceremony as the maduranese cultural identity is more represented by radar madura as an information that describes in very detail the series of customary ceremonial procession that cannot be recognized by everyone. Art as a maduranese cultural identity is represented as the form of cultural identity that begins to be abandoned by its generation. In the publication text on Maduranese people’s work spirit, the Maduranese persistence is more represented as an attempt conducted because the pressure of economical demand so that the persistence property is covered by the objective of fulfilling their economical needs. In cultural article, the Maduranese’s high social cultural value is the Maduranese cultural identity is apparently discussed to invite the readers to explore, undertake, and maintain the Maduranese culture constantly as well as to make them realize that Madura has typical and potential culture that is not less than other ethnics’. Proverb column seems visually to appear the maduranese local color rather than the objective of exploring and raising the high values in a proverb. If viewed from the text production process, the journalist idealism will not appear more in his/her writing, if such idealism is contradictory with the ideology of media organization. This is because the journalist’s position lies in the very bottom position in determining a text existence within the media. With work routine proceeding for a long time, the journalist really understand what the editorial will consider in choosing or constructing the news. Political economical hegemony of media is apparently pervasive into the Radar Madura Editorial through the work routine. In sociocultural analysis, it can be seen that the news production in the media cannot currently be separated from the economic effect of media such as exemplar, inter-media competition, and ownership interference with the media as well as political institution. In addition, the very prominent social level and the one affecting the text production are the Madura local wisdom and the media economical politics. Through the media’s economical politics hegemony, the editorial of Madura Radar presents the life philosophy as the construction of news generating an appeal to the audience to read it. However, unconsciously the capitalist interest has mounted the mass media through the media’s economical politics hegemony. Key Word : Maduranese Cultural Identity, Critical Discourse Analysis.
