ABSTRAK
The distorted images of Arabs often appear in Western artwork and literature. They also appear in the form of popular product, which is Hollywood movies. Larry Charles?s The Dictator (2012) offers a comedy with an Arab as main character in the film. It also becomes interesting to discuss since the issue is wrapped in comedy genre. By deploying Edward Said?s Orientalism, the portrayal of Arabs in Western perspective portrayed in The Dictator is examined. As a result, the main character, Aladeen is represented as a „bad Arab? throughout the film. Under post-colonial discourse such distorted depiction is to justify Western imperial and ruling over Orient. Throughout many Western and Orientalist creations, Arabs are depicted as bomber, barbaric and lustful.
