Abstrak
    This research aims at analyzing request speech acts based on Blum Kulka et al.’s theory applied by the characters in Harry Potter Movie entitled Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. There are two objectives of this research. The first is to classify the relationship between the characters in the movie entitled Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. The second is to analyze the types of request utterances used in the movie entitled Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets.
    This research is conducted in a descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data is the dialogues from a movie entitled Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets using purposive sampling method. The researcher classified the request speech acts with coding framework with nine types of varying level of directness based on Blum Kulka et al.’s theory, but several types were added following Takahashi’s theory which further subdivided some types yielding a total of 12 types.
The result of this research for the relationship of the characters shows that the request expression -P-D is the most dominant with percentage of 39.4% of a total 33 data. For the analysis of the types of request utterance based on Blum Kulka et al’s theory, it shows that the commonly used request expression in the movie is Imperative (27,3%).
    This research is expected to be followed up by the coming research in terms of request speech acts. The researcher also suggests that other researchers to do analysis of request expression in other source of data.
