This research is focused on two issues, they are: 1) the type of event names and the translation techniques applied in translating event names in the translated historical book entitled An Outline of American History and 2) the impact of the translation techniques on the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability. Belonging to descriptive qualitative study, this research uses purposive sampling technique in searching the data from the historical book. There are 92 data of event names, they are event names belonging to conventional names (5 data), event names belonging to loaded names which have semantic meaning (10 data), and event names belonging to loaded names which have semiotic meaning (77 data). Focus group discussion is used to collect the translation quality assessment from the three raters or informants. All of the informants are also chosen by using purposive sampling technique.

The result of analysis provides two results. The first is the type of the event names and the translation technique to translate them. There are 2 techniques which are applied in translating event names belong to conventional names, 6 techniques for translating event names belong to loaded names which have semantic meaning, and 22 techniques for translating event names belong to loaded names which have semiotic meaning.  It is found 7 single translation techniques,  7 couplet translation techniques and  10 combination translation techniques in translating event names. The analysis of translation accuracy of event names presents that 73 data are accurate, 13 data are less accurate and 6 data are  inaccurate.   In terms  of acceptability, there are 50 data acceptable, 34 data are less acceptable and 8 data are unacceptable.

The research finding indicates that conventionality technique mostly produces accurate and acceptable translation. It is due to the fact that the most event names that are translated using this technique are conventionally accepted with TL historical figures. According to theory stated by Fernandes conventionality technique is commonly used with names of historical.

The reproduction technique only produces accurate and acceptable translation in event names belonging to conventional names. It relates to the conventional names which is unmotivated to translate as geographical name and name of person. According to theory of Hermans, conventional names are those seen as unmotivated for translation, since they apparently do not carry a semantic load.
