AbstrakThis research is conducted to analyze the speech events containing angerexpressions in the movie entitled “Zootopia”. There are four main points which arediscussed in this research. The first point is the types of anger expressions which appearin the movie. The second point is the types of speech acts which are employed by thecharacters in the movie to represent their anger. The third point is the factors whichinfluence the way the characters express their anger. The last point is the responses of thehearers regarding to the anger expressions. In total, there are 30 data of speech events ofanger containing 72 anger expressions, which are analyzed using LeMouse’s theory ofanger expression and Searle’s theory of speech acts.This research applies qualitative method in which the data are collected from theconversations in the Zootopia movie. The results of this research are, as follows: (1)There are 7 different types of anger expressions which appear in the movie. Thosedifferent types are Behavioral Anger, Passive Anger, Verbal Anger, Judgmental Anger,Overwhelmed Anger, Retaliatory Anger, and Deliberate Anger. (2) All of the types ofspeech acts which are proposed by Searle are found in the utterances in order to representthe anger expressions. They are Representative (in asserting form), Directive (in the formof suggesting, questioning, commanding, prohibiting, and requesting), Expressive (in theform of exclaiming, complaining, blaming, fuming, cursing, and showing eversion),Commissive (in the form of threatening and committing), and Declarative (in the form ofdeclaring). (3) Several factors influencing the anger expressions are found in the movie.They are legitimate power, close relationship, and distant relationship. (4) The mostpreferred response which is done by the hearer in the movie is expression response. Keywords: speech event, anger expressions, speech acts.
