This research consists of two research problems: (i) What are the types of conjunctions used to connect interparagraph which have contradiction and addition meanings? and (ii) Is there any interparagraph conjunction containing contradiction and addition meanings that can replace each other? This research aims to describe the conjunctions which can be used to connect interparagraph and contain contradiction and addition meanings. Further, this research aims to find out the conjunctions that can replace each other.
This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data are in the form of paragraphs which containing interparagraph conjunctions that have contradictions and additions meaning in Kompas and Solopos editions 17 March to 16 July 2019 with random data collection. The researcher reads the data sources intensively to find the interparagraph conjunctions that have contradiction and addition meanings, then note it. The Data analysis using agih method and BUL technique then proceed by using ganti technique. The method of presenting the results of the data analysis in this research is the informal presentation method.
The conclusions of this research, includes (i) The interparagraph conjunctions that have contradiction meaning commonly used in Kompas and Solopos are namun, sebaliknya, tapi, tetapi, akan tetapi, ironisnya, padahal, hanya saja, hanya, pada sisi lain, and sementara. Then, the interparagraph conjunctions that have addition meaning commonly used are sementara itu, sementara, selain itu, sebelumnya, sebelum ini, lebih tragis lagi, terpisah, secara terpisah, di sisi lain, pada satu sisi, pada sisi lain, di samping itu, etc; (ii) There are conjunctions that can replace each other in any context, because those are influenced by the meanings of the conjunctions which are synonym with each other, therefore, eventhough these conjunctions can be replaced each other, it will not change the information from the previous paragraph.
