Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) is an Indonesian language learning program specifically for foreigners. There are many components of learning that need to be considered, one of which is the use of learning media. This study aims to describe and explain: 1) learning media used in Indonesian language learning for speakers of foreigners at BIPA Unnes, 2) the use of learning media in teaching Indonesian language for foreign speakers at BIPA Unnes, 3) difficulties in using learning media of teaching Indonesian language for foreign speakers in BIPA Unnes, and 4) how to overcome difficulties in using learning media at BIPA Unnes.
This research is a qualitative study using case studies. This research was conducted at BIPA Semarang State University. The data sources in this study are objects (media used), BIPA teachers, and BIPA students at BIPA Unnes. The sampling trailer technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection is done by interview, observation, and document analysis. Testing the validity of the data in this study using source triangulation and method triangulation.
The results of this study are: 1) the learning media used at BIPA Unnes are visual media (floor plans, pictures/picture cards, color cards, whiteboards), audio media (songs), audio-visual media (video), manipulative media (objects around the class and food), media texts (reading texts, practice questions, and word cards), and people media; 2) the use of learning media in BIPA Unnes are a) visual media used in material about direction, describing images, looking for differences and similarities from two images, mentioning color names according to the color card discussed, whiteboard used according to needs, b) audio media (song) is used to listen to song lyrics to fill up text, c) audio visual media (video) are used to replenish the contents of the show, d) manipulative media are used according to needs, e) media text is used for each learning, and f) people's media used as needed; 3) difficulties that arise in the use of learning media in BIPA Unnes namely a) conversation and communication problems, b) time management, especially if using audio visual media, and c) approved not to use the problem exercise sheet; and 4) how to overcome difficulties in the use of instructional media at BIPA Unnes namely a) ensure the guidance provided must be clear, if necessary repeated, b) use a dictionary that is less successful, c) choose video shows by adding the appropriate ones, and d ) always ready worksheets in learning.
