Hanifa Dwi Indah Dewi, 2019, Translating Storylines and Display Captions from
Indonesian into English at Keris Nusantara Museum, English Diploma Program,
Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret.
This final report was written based on the internship activities at Keris
Nusantara Museum Surakarta. The internship program was started on January 29
th
,
2019 to March 1
st
, 2019. I worked for six days a week, from Tuesday to Sunday. This
final report contains of main activities such as translating storylines, display captions,
making a brochure and video subtitles from Indonesian into English with their
translation techniques to accomplish them. In addition, this final report also explains
other additional activities such as managing at the administration desk and guests’
stuff.
I translated some storylines, display captions, making a bilingual brochure and
video subtitle from Indonesian into English during joining the internship program.
Here, I used three steps to translate those texts. Firstly I analyzed source texts;
secondly, I translated source texts to the target language; and the last step I proofread
the translation result. I also found some problems during translating texts such as,
lack of knowledge and information about kris, unfamiliar words related to the kris
that exist, bad internet connection, and lack of computer facilities. I solved those
problems by searching for information from kris books, articles, and internet; looking
for the equivalent of difficult words from online or offline dictionaries; and asking
help from my supervisor.
