Mentally retarded children depend on their parents or nanny for their daily activities, especially self-care. Mental retardation children will have difficulty learning in selfskills and need help when at home or at school. In this case, parents have an important role in teaching self-care skills to children with mental retardation. Mental retardation children need to learn self-skills as soon as possible in order to be accepted and to be independent in social life. The purpose of this study is to discover the perception of nanny in mentoring toilet training in children with mental retardation. The variable measured is nanny’s perceptions in mentoring toilet training in mentally retarded children. The population includes nanny at Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) B-C Hamong Putro Jombor Sukoharjo). Sampling technique was taken by purposive sampling obtained 25 nannys in class C. Data collection techniques is using Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The intervention in this research took the form of training or mentoring on toilet training. The data collection tool uses the FGD guide by the FGD facilitator and the results are recorded with a smart phone voice recorder. The results showed the perception of parents / nanny tended to be positive in mentoring toilet training in children with mental retardation at SLB BC Hamong Putro Jombor Sukoharjo. Focus Group Discussion caused direct interaction between respondents and facilitators so there was an exchange of information and experience that increased respondents' knowledge in mentoring toilet training for mentally retarded children at SLB BC Hamong Putro Jombor Sukoharjo.
