This research is aimed to: (1) investigate whether “pathway to English for SMA/MA grade X” has implemented the scientific approach of 2013 curriculum or not, (2) investigate the extent of the implementation of scientific approach based on 2013 curriculum in the textbook “pathway to English for SMA/MA  grade X”. The subject of this research is student textbook entitled ”pathway to English for SMA/MA grade X”. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher uses document in the form textbook of “pathway to English for SMA/MA for grade X” as the data source and uses document analysis as the data collection. The technique of analyzing data used a theory proposed by Elliot and Timulak which comprise data preparation, delineating and processing meaning units, finding an overall organizing structure for the data, generation of categories, and abstracting the main finding. The analysis deals with the compatibility of scientific approach stages of 2013 curriculum which consist of: observing, questioning, experimenting, associating, and communicating. Furthermore the findings of the analysis are: 33 activities in observing stage, 23 activities in questioning stage, 21 activities in experimenting stage, 27 activities in associating stage, and 8 activities in communicating stage. The results of the research show that (1) the textbook “pathway to English for SMA/MA grade X” has applied the scientific approach and (2) the compatibility of scientific approach in the textbook is 61?tivities support scientific approach in Chapter 1 and 39?tivities do not support the scientific approach. In chapter 5, 77?tivities support scientific approach and 23?tivities do not support the scientific approach. In chapter 8, 70?tivities support scientific approach and 30?tivities do not support the scientific approach. In chapter 9, 74?tivities support scientific approach and 26?tivities do not support the scientific approach.
