Abstrak

This research aims to describe the types of Indonesian slang found in the Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! movie, to identify the techniques used by the translator in translating Indonesian slang words found in the Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! movie dialogues into English subtitle, and to find out the impact of their techniques on the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability.

The data of this research were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. The source of data consists of document and informants. They were all consists of Indonesian slang expressions in form of words and phrases taken from the dialogues of a movie entitled Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss!, while the informants were three raters who validated the data and assessed the quality of translation in terms of accuracy and acceptability. In determining the source of data, this research applied a purposive sampling technique due to the document and informants were selected purposively. In collecting the data, this research applied content analysis and focus group discussion.

The research findings show that there are a total of 97 data containing 7 types of Indonesian slang words found in the Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! movie, which are: relexicalization (46 data), profane (25 data), code-mixing (11 data), using the existing words (5 data), acronym (4 data), metaphor (3 data), and creating new words (3 data). There are 10 translation techniques used to translate the Indonesian slangs into English subtitle in total. The techniques found to be used are neutralization (39.17%), established equivalent (19.58%), deletion (13.40%), neutralization+modulation (8.24%), modulation (6.18%), discursive creation (4.12%), literal translation (3.09%), variant borrowing (3.09%), neutralization+generalization (2.06%), and neutralization+transposition (1.03%). The average score of accuracy is 2.0 while the average score of acceptability is
2.6. The total score of the translation quality assessment is 2.24.
