Flouting maxim occurs when speech participants do not obey the cooperative principle in order to protect the image of the other person. To flout the maxim of quality, there are many ways including using hyperbole, metaphor, irony, banter, sarcasm, and rhetorical question. The aim of this research is to to analyze the types of flouting maxim of quality, the implicatures, and the communication patterns found in the Knives Out movie. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, and the source of the data is taken from the utterances of nine main characters in Knives Out movie containing flouting maxim of quality. The researcher uses Joan Cutting's (2002) theory of flouting maxim of quality, Gvozdanovic’s (1997) theory of rhetorical question, and Santosa’s (2017) theory of domain analysis for analyzing the data. The result shows that there are six types of flouting maxim of quality found in the Knives Out movie, namely metaphor, sarcasm, hyerbole, irony, banter, and rhetorical question. From 64 data of flouting maxim of quality, there are eighteen metaphors, ten sarcasms, six hyperboles, seven ironies, three banter, and twenty rhetorical questions found in the movie. There are also several communication patterns were found in the Knives Out movie.
