The objective of this research is to describe Indonesian historical event with what Conrad wrote in his novel The Rescue (1920) using Historical approach. This study examines the events depicted in The Rescue novel that has similarities with Indonesian history during the Indonesian colonial period. The findings of this research are, first, events that involves Indonesian histories with some European countries are depicted in the novel, there are eight historical events namely: European Imperialism in the East, Sir Thomas Cochrane "Swept" Borneo resulting Battle of Marudu, Batavia as Dutch's Capital, The Travel and Trade culture of Kingdom of Wajo during European Colonial Era, Dutch “Stole” Dutch Indies, Makassar “Civil” War, Padri War in Sumatra and Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824. Second, the historical events in the novel are similar with real Indonesian histories that were written in historical texts or books by historians. Third, understanding the real history in the novel can be beneficial and can help to understand the novels because the readers can relate the information to the novel quickly and make the novel interesting to read further.
