Fruit flies are the main pests that damage vegetable and fruit crops. Damage to fruit is caused by fruit fly larvae eating fruit flesh, so that the fruit becomes rotten before ripening in time. The use of essential oils as vegetable attractants has potential as a solution to control fruit flies. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of several essential oils as vegetable attractants against fruit flies. This research was conducted from January to July 2021. Laboratory tests were carried out at the Laboratory of Plant Pests and Diseases, Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. The field test was carried out on a chili plantation in Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso. This research is an experimental study by testing several essential oils against fruit flies. The preference test used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and a concentration of 100% which was repeated six times. As for the field test using a Completely Randomized Block Design with 3 treatments and a concentration of 100% with 3 replications. The essential oil was obtained by distillation of basil leaves, kaffir lime peel and eucalyptus. The results of this research, namely for laboratory preference tests, it was found that the comparison/synthetic treatment was the best with an average of successfully attracting 6 tails. Field tests showed that the comparison/synthetic treatment and eucalyptus essential oil had the same significant effect in attracting male fruit flies. The composition of the trapped fruit fly population consisted of two types of fruit flies, namely Batrocera dorsalis and Batrocera carambolae with 77 and 49 tails, respectively. The conclusion of this study is that eucalyptus essential oil can effectively be used as a vegetable attractant to attract fruit flies.
