ABSTRACT

Rifki Dwi Prahardika. C. 0514050. 2021. Association of Wedangan Baron (Pawon) in Surakarta 1990-2011 Thesis: Historical Science Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta.

This Research took the theme of Pawon Association in Surakarta. This research was conducted with the aims to know about (1) history of the start of Pawon Association, (2) social networking that was created from wedangan tradesman, (3) benefits from the creation of the association for wedangan tradesman.

            In accordance with the aims, this research used historical research methods involving: Heuristic, Source Criticism which include internal and external critic, Data Interpretation, and Historiography. Sources of this research is obtained from Solo Pers Monument’s archive, Pawon Association, Interview with Totok Mulyanto, Nico, Seno and Wiyadi. Other sources are reference books, and newspaper from the same timeline.

The result of this research showed that wedangan business first appeared in Surakarta in 1940. By 1990, wedangan business had grown considerably that a group consisted of wedangan tradesman and food vendors was created. Because of the high enthusiasm for wedangan business, in 2003 an association which consisted of wedangan tradesman and food vendors was created and named Pawon. This research concluded that the creation of Pawon association were very important for wedangan tradesman because it unified the goal of wedangan tradesman and help them prosper through the association’s activity.
