This study aimed to compare the graphical method (GM) and standard deviation method (SDM) based on analyzing and efficient Weibull parameters estimating for a future wind energy potential on the coastline region of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Hence, the conclusion from the numerical methods comparison will also determine the suitable wind turbine that’s cost-effective for a study location. The wind speed data from this study were collected in the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), Dar es Salaam station in the period of the year 2017 to 2019. The two numerical methods introduced in this study were both found to be appropriate for Weibull distribution parameter estimation in the study area. However, the standard deviation method gives a higher value of Weibull parameter estimations than the graphical method. Furthermore, the five commercial wind turbine models selected that simulated their performance based on capacity factor using standard deviation method are both above 25% of a recommended capacity factor value. Though, the Polaris P50-500 commercial wind turbine would recommend as a suitable wind turbine to be installed in the study area due to its maximum annual value of capacity factor in both three years.
