× ABSTRAK Carcinoma of the cervix uterine is a primary cancer in the uterine cervix, both the canal of cervix and or portio. This cancer is the main cause of the death. The incidence rate of squamus cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix increases over years. p21 protein is a protein which has a role as the regulator of the progressivity of the cell cycle. This protein binds Cyclin-Cdk in the G1 and S phase of the cell cycle. However, the role of the level of p21 expression in moderate and severe differentiation of squamous cell uterine cervix carcinoma has not been clearly known so far. This research aims to find out the meaning of p21 expression level difference of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix between the moderate and severe differentiation. This was an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach. This used 10 paraffin blocks of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix tissues. The screening for HPV 16 was done by imunostainning technique using monoclonal antibody anti E7 HPV 16. The imunnohistochemical was used for detecting the level of p21 expression by using antibody anti human p21. The sample was obtained from The Pathology Anatomy Laboratory of The Medical Faculty of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta during July to September 2007 periods. The sampling technique was quota sampling. T-statistic test used to analyse the data by using the difference test of Levene’s Test. Result of the research shows that the mean percentage of p21 expression of moderate differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix is 5.85%, and the severe differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix is 2.68% ( = 0.05). It can be concluded that there is no significant difference of p21 expression level between the moderate and severe differentiation cervix uterine squamous cell carcinomas.
