The goals of this study are to describe the types of directive speech acts employed by the characters in the novel entitled ‘Negeri 5 Menara’, to describe the politeness strategies employed in the directive speech act in the novel entitled ‘Negeri 5 Menara’, to explain how the directive speech acts in the source text are transfered, to assess the translation quality in term of accuracy and acceptability of the ‘Negeri 5 Menara’ translation version novel ‘The land of five towers’. It is a descriptive-qualitative study involving documents and informants as sources of data. The documents are a novel entitled 'Negeri 5 Menara,' and the English translation version entitled ‘The Land of Five Towers’ and the informant is a rater who evaluated the quality of the translations. The analysis of directive speech act using  Yule's speech act theory shows that the characters in the dialogue of the novel 'Negeri 5 Menara' use four types of directive speech acts, they are order, command, request, and suggestion. It also shows that the characters use four types of Brown and Levinson's politeness strategy, they are bald on-record strategy, positive politeness strategy, negative politeness strategy, and off-record strategy. The analysis of how the directive speech acts translated shows that most of the directive speech acts analyzed are translated using the same type of directive speech acts and the same types of politeness strategy. The researcher found 44 data that did not experience a shift and 6 data that experienced a shift. The data that experienced shifts are order and off record to request and negative, request and negative to request and on record, suggestion and on record to suggestion and negative, command and negative to order and negative, order and positive and negative to command and positive and negative, request and positive and negative to request and negative. The translation quality analysis reveals that the translation version of the novel 'Negeri 5 Menara' entitled 'The Land of Five Towers' is of high quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability. Out of 50 translations, 38 (76%) are classified as accurate, 11 (18%) as less accurate, and 1 (2%) as inaccurate. Some of the data considered to be less accurate because of the incorrectly translated pronouns and ambiguous expression. One data is considered inaccurate because the directive speech act containing idiom is translated literally which produces a translation with a different message from that of the source text. In terms of acceptability, 20 (40%) of the 50 data are categorized as acceptable, 26 (50%) as less acceptable and 4 (10%) as unacceptable. Some of the data considered to be less acceptable because of the less natural English expressions, some of them with incorrect sentence form or spelling problems, some of them with grammatical faults, some of them with inappropriate word selection, and some of them with poor sentence structure. The data are considered unacceptable because some of the data contain unusual expressions that are not commonly used by the target reader, as well as data with a poor structure and misspellings.
