The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in many countries experiencing a setback in democracy. In many countries, power is trapped in the form of authoritarianism which causes new problems in the relationship between the state and its people. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report shows that Indonesia is in the category of flawed democracy. The report revealed that two of the five assessment indicators fell quite sharply, namely the variables of civil liberties and political culture, each of which fell more than 20%. In the context of this research, art and politics have an intersection in the social process of society. This research is a qualitative research using case study method. Using a sociological and communication approach as a new effort and the relevance of action to analyze the main problem of different perspectives which tend not to find a middle point because they both maintain the status and values held by each party. The purpose of this study was to describe the standpoint patterns and social movements on critical murals in Surakarta City. The results in this study, the street mural art movement made an effort to criticize the power and condition of the political system in Indonesia. The substance that is on the walls of the streets generally contains complaints from the public in the pandemic situation and some of them are still continuing to this day. In the Surakarta area, there are murals that are clearly written such as “Negaraku Minus Nurani, #Rip Pemerintah”, “Orang Miskin Dilarang Sakit” and so on. The critical movement built by the community through murals ended in silencing actions carried out by power and negative stigma as a form of urban vandalism and efforts to disrupt public order. The debate on the perspective between the community and the government on this issue is studied using standpoint theory to obtain results that are compatible with what is actually happening in the field.
