Abstrak : ABSTRACT 2008. Love becomes the common word in the human life. Everybody from every single age and social background must ever feel love. Many composers of lyric, song, fiction often adopt love as the major theme in their work and it is loved by their consumers. From the reason above, the researcher is challenged to find what actually concept of love is. The theme of love is also implied in David Hurbert Lawrence’s novel Women in Love. This research is conducted to find out the concept of love on Lawrence novel Women in Love. To come to that purpose, the researcher applies the philosophical approach in analyzing the data. This approach is suitable to explain the concept of love from the original thought, since philosophy is a mother of science. In this research, the primary data are taken from the novel as the main source. The researcher also takes any information from outside sources as secondary data which support the primary data. The researcher concludes that there are two concepts of love found in this novel, that are love of the body and love of the soul. Love of the body works in the Birkin and Ursula relationship, while love of the soul exists in the Gudrun and Loerke relationship. Since love always gives birth to beauty, so in Ursula and Birkin relationship gives birth to the opinion that they should free from the attachment of materialism, while Gudrun and Loerke have the opinion that they do not like to the concept of ideal life.
