Teaching reading to the 1st grade students  of SMP Negeri 1 Karangpandan

× ABSTRACT 2008. This final project is written based on the job training which was carried out by the apprentice at SMPN 1 Karangpandan. The purposes of the project is to know and to understand the process of teaching reading at SMPN 1 Karangpandan, including its problems faced by the students and the teachers, also its solutions for those problems. In writing this final report, the apprentice collected the data by observing the class, interviewing to the student and directly teaching in the classroom and the different resources that related to the problems that are discussed in this report. The apprentice provided some component in teaching reading for the students which are categorized into five: curriculum, syllabus, material, method and classroom procedure. During the process of teaching reading, the apprentice found one difficulties faced by the students and teachers. The difficulties are categorized into three; the method, the problems of the students, and the teacher’s problems in giving the material. The apprentice also presents the solutions to solve the problems. The apprentice used communicative approach in the process of teaching reading. Besides, the apprentice also used grammar traditional method during teaching reading process in the class. From the discussion in this report we can know that in teaching reading, the relation among five components (presentation and explanation, the materials, the method, the exercise, and the test) cannot be separated. The process of teaching will not run smoothly if one of those components is not involved.
