This study aims to find out the answers to two research questions: (1) what type of communicative speaking tasks does an Official English textbook for senior high school have?, and (2) how communicative are these communicative speaking tasks in an Official English textbook for senior high school?

This research is a qualitative study that used content analysis as the research method. The resource of data in this research is Official English textbook "Bahasa Inggris" for senior high school. The data from the textbook is collected by doing document analysis. Then it is analyzed by using the interactive model of data analysis.

The findings from research question number 1 reveal that the Official English textbook "Bahasa Inggris" for senior high school developed seven types of communicative speaking tasks, namely information-gap activity, jigsaw activity, problem-solving activity, discussion, dialogue, role-play, and simulation. The textbook's most dominant communicative speaking task is role-play, with 8 tasks (26,68%). Meanwhile, jigsaw and simulation stand as the least dominant communicative speaking tasks in the textbook with 1 task (3,33%). Furthermore, the answer to research question number 2 is: not all of communicative speaking tasks in an Official English textbook "Bahasa Inggris" for senior high school are communicative. The Non-communicative Learning category has 1 tasks, Pre-communicative Learning has 9 tasks, Communicative Language Practice has 5 tasks, Structured Communication has 5 tasks, and 10 tasks belong to Authentic Communication. After computing the number of communicative speaking tasks in each communicative category, the results showed that 66.67% of communicative speaking tasks in an Official English textbook "Bahasa Inggris" for senior high school are communicative, as it involves students in meaningful practice. Meanwhile, the rest, 33.33% of communicative speaking tasks in the textbook, consist of tasks that focus primarily on formal correctness. It means that communicative speaking tasks in the textbook still notice structure as important part to develop communicative competence while promoting real-world verbal communication skill.  Hence, communicative speaking tasks in Official English textbook "Bahasa Inggris" for senior high school are considered adequate to promote communication between students.

Taken together, these results suggest that teachers who use this textbook should look for material or adapt tasks from other resources to supply more communicative speaking tasks and provide communicative speaking tasks which are genuinely communicative.
