Employing effective strategies in teaching speaking to primary students as young learners is essential to meet students' educational requirements and assist students in communicating in the language they are learning. The study aims to explore strategies used by English teachers to teach speaking skills to young learners and to identify the impacts of teaching strategies used by the English teachers on the students’ English learning. The design of the study was a case study. The participants of this present study were two in-service English teachers at one of Indonesia's favourite Islamic International elementary schools. Researchers conducted interviews, classroom observation, and documentation. Thematic analysis was used as the data analysis. The study results showed that teachers used a variety of teaching strategies in teaching speaking to young learners depending on the material learned. The teaching strategies used by the teachers were brainstorming in pre and post-class activities. In the class activities, the teachers used discussion, role play, storytelling, interviews, story completion, playing cards, and games. The teachers’ strategies in teaching speaking to young learners positively impacted the students' engagement (behavioral, affective, and cognitive engagement). The results of the study can be used as a reflection of other teachers on choosing appropriate teaching strategies in teaching speaking skills to young learners based on the students’ needs, characters, and interests.
