            The objective of this research are: (1) to examine the students’ perceptions of Collaborative Strategic Reading in EFL classroom. (2) to explore the students' experiences in the four stages including preview, click and clunk, get the gist and wrap-up based on Klingner and Vaughn (1998) in the collaborative reading in EFL Classroom. (3) to explore the types of students’ roles found in the Collaborative Strategic Reading activity based on Klingner and Vaughn (1998).

            This research was conducted at one of public universities in Surakarta. The participants were three Indonesian undergraduate EFL learners who joined an academic reading class in the third semester. This reseach applied a narraitve inquiry method and collected the data through a semi-structured interviews and artifacts  taken from students’ academic reading papers.

            This study examines the students’ perceptions of collaborative strategic reading activty during the academic reaidng class in the third semester. The students exoerienced the four stages of collaborative startegic reading including preview, click and clunk, get the gist and wrap-up. Students also experienced the roles including leader, encourager, and reporter. However, the students still need futher discussion with their peers toward the roles during the teaching and learning process. The lecturer’s guidance for four stages and roles of students of collaborative strategic reaidng is needed to provide a meaningful process in learning reading.
