The purposes of this research are (1) to find out the types swear words found in the film subtitle entitled Shaft 2019, (2) to discover the functions of swear words, (3) to analyze the translation techniques used by the translator, (4) to uncover the functions of the translation of the swear words, and (5) to find out the impact of translation techniques affects the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability.

This research applied descriptive qualitative method since the results were described in words and sentences. The sources of data in this research were divided into two, they were document and informants. The researcher decided to choose the film as a source of data because this film contains a large number of swearing words. Meanwhile, the informants involved in this research were three rates including the researcher himself. The informants assessed the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability.

The result of this research shows that 147 data are found, there are 7 types of swearing words, those type are sex (21), excrement (33), name of animals (3), personal background (1), sexual activity (70), taboo or religion or oath (18), and mental illness (1). The type of sexual activity is the most frequent used type in the film subtitle entitled Shaft 2019. The researcher also found that there are 4 functions that can be used of each type of the swearing words, namely expletive (73), abusive (44), humorous (7), and auxiliary (23). The function which is often used in the film subtitle entitled Shaft 2019 is expletive. For the result of translation techniques, it reveals that there are four techniques used, specifically translation by using swear words of similar meaning but dissimilar form (28), translation by using swear words of dissimilar meaning and form (14), translation by a more neutral word (36), and translation by omission (58). The most used technique in the swear words translation is translation by omission. The use of the translation techniques causes the functions of swearing words translation have a big difference related to the amount of data with the source language around 94 data. It happens because the use of translation by a more neutral word and omission. The translation techniques affect the translation quality as well which is less accurate and acceptable. It indicates that the translation of swear words from film subtitle Shaft 2019 cannot really deliver the same equivalence of the swear words causing the level of rudeness decreases although on the other side it is accepted by the target langua
