This research aim to describe om a description about Anak Gunung Lawu, first, to explain the background of Anak Gunung Lawu establishment. Second, knowing the development of Anak Gunung Lawu in 1997-2015. Third, knowing Anak Gunung Lawu role in conducting SAR on Mount Lawu in 1997-2015.

This research uses a historical method with consist of four steps, that is Heuristics (source investigation), Source criticis, (verification), Interpratation, and Historiography. By utilizing contemporary sources as the main source, this research uses AD/ART Anak Gunung Lawu and news coverage in newspapers. Among them are the newspapers, Kompas 1996-20009 and Solopos 2013-2015. This research also uses as the main source by interviewed founders of Anak Gunung Lawu, Anak Gunung Lawu managements, Anak Gunung Lawu members, and some of the victim’s families who had helped from Anak Gunung Lawu.

The result showed, first, the establishment of Anak Gunung Lawu was based on many disaster occurring in Mount Lawu and the similarity hobbies of the members. Second, in 1997-2015 Anak Gunung Lawu experienced many developments ranging from increasing the number of members, infrastructure facilities, and various kinds of activities.Third, the role of Anak Gunung Lawu in managing Serach And Rescue in Mount Lawu includes hiking accidents, fire disasters, and natural disasters. So it can be concluded that Anak Gunung Lawu could conduct Search And Rescue operation on Mount Lawu if disaster that occurred in a small scale disaster, but if the disaster that occurred was a large-scale disaster, Anak Gunung Lawu is only part of the Search And Rescue operation led by National SAR Agency (Basarnas).
