This research was conducted to find out the African American moral values in the novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker. The Color Purple is used as the source of the main data in this research. The data were then analyzed using a moral philosophical approach. The result of this analysis shows that the novel teaches African -American values related to religion, women’s freedom, and women’s bond in the blacks community. Celie, the main character of the story, is depicted as a tough black woman who fights for her life in the midst of pressure from white society. In her struggle Celie shows her African-American moral values so that she is able to survive from the pressure and discrimination from the white society. Celie is a woman of freedom, is believing God in every single part of life, keep connections with the women in her surrounding amid the racism and sexual violences she experiences.
