This research was conducted to analyze the translation techniques used by the translators in translating the Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide into Indonesian and to asses the translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.
A descriptive qualitative method was used in this research since the result were described in words and sentences. The source of data consisted of document and informants. The data were all the technical terms in the form of words and phrases taken from the Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide, while the informants were three raters who helped to classify the translation technique and to assess the translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. In determining the source of data, this research applied a purposive sampling technique to choose the document which certainly contains the sufficient number of technical terms and criterion-based sampling to choose the informants. There were two techniques in collecting the data; content analysis and focus group discussion.
The research findings show that there are 128 technical terms found in Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide. It is found that the translators used 9 kinds of translation technique to translate the technical terms. They are established equivalence, pure borrowing, literal, the couplets (3 variants) and triplets (3 variants) translation techniques combining established equivalence and pure borrowing.
Based on the Translation Quality Assessment, the translation of technical terms in Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide are considered as accurate, as indicated by the accuracy score of 2.88; acceptable as signified by the acceptability score of 2.86; and readable as shown by the readability score of 2.5.
