This research aims to investigate the types of metaphor, analyse the translation procedures used by the translator in translating the metaphorical expressions, and analyse the accuracy and acceptability of the metaphors contained in The Midnight Library novel and its Indonesian translation Perpustakaan Tengah Malam. This research is descriptive qualitative research.. The data were obtained through content analysis and Focus Group Discussion. The sampling technique employed in this research is a purposive sampling technique since the researcher only used the narration of the novel as the source of data.
There are 123 metaphors found in the The Midnight Library novel which are divided into four types, namely cliché metaphors, dead metaphors, stock or standard metaphors, and original metaphors. Further, there are five procedures applied by the translator in translating the metaphorical expressions. The most frequent is reproducing the same image in the TL, followed by converting metaphor into sense, replacing the image in the SL with a standard TL image, translating metaphor by simile, and lastly is deleting the metaphor.
In terms of the quality of the translations, the research shows that the accuracy and acceptability of the novel is fairly high since the average score of the accuracy is 2.80 and the average score of acceptability is 2.86. The findings also show that the translation procedures applied by the translator affect the level of accuracy and acceptability of the translation.
