Islamophobia is a social phenomenon characterized by fear, hatred, and prejudice toward Islam and Muslims, which is often represented in the mass media, particularly in news texts. This study aims to analyze the representation of Islamophobia in news texts regarding Islamophobic incidents published by the British media outlet, Middle East Eye. This study employs the Appraisal approach, specifically the Attitude subsystem, along with Allen’s (2010) typology of Islamophobia. Additionally, the study analyzes the development of Islamophobia at each stage of the news text structure and compares how Islamophobia manifests in France and the United Kingdom. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with an embedded multiple case study design. The research data consists of online news texts regarding Islamophobic incidents published in the main column of Middle East Eye. The results indicate that Islamophobia in France tends toward the normalization of discrimination, whereas in the UK it is more frequently constructed through negative perceptions of Muslims.
