Interactive learning activities play an important role in English language teaching by encouraging learners to communicate actively during speaking lessons. However, limited studies have examined both the types of interactive learning activities and their implementation in theme-based online speaking classes for beginner English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the types of interactive learning activities and explore how they were implemented. This qualitative case study involved two speaking mentors and beginner-level learners in a theme-based online speaking program. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014). The findings revealed 1) types of interactive learning activities: a. discussion, b. storytelling, c. authentic interaction, and pair question-and-answer interaction, with discussion being the most frequently implemented. The activities were carried out through a systematic sequence of opening, theme introduction, interactive speaking activities, mentor support, feedback, and lesson closure. Mentors facilitated learners through scaffolding, vocabulary assistance, and corrective feedback, encouraging active participation despite learners' limited vocabulary and nervousness. In conclusion, interactive learning activities promoted meaningful communication and learners’ engagement, providing practical insights for designing effective online speaking instruction.
