ABSTRACT
Rigged gourd (Luffa acutangula (l.)Roxb.) contains of antiviral protein
LA.1 and LA.2, and ribosome inactivating protein luffaculin that exhibit
cytotoxic activity, beside alkaloid, saponin, flavanoid, cucurbitacin, and luffein.
Theyhaveteratogeniceffects.Theobjectivesoftheresearchweretofindoutthe
effectsofgiving riggedgourd fruitextractorallyongrowthanddevelopmentof
fetusesandtofindoutthesafelydosage.
TheCompleteRandomDesign (CRD)with4 treatmentgroups and each
treatment used 5 repetitionswere used in this study.Rigged gourd extractwas
dissolved in aquadest and administrated orally on 6.16th
day of pregnancy.The
groups treated with rigged gourd extract dosage: 0 mg/kg BW (control); 250
mg/kgBW;500mg/kgBW;750mg/kgBWand1000mg/kgBW.At19th
dayof
pregnancy, mouse were euthanased with dislocation cervix and caesarian
sectioned toremove thefetusesandplacentasfromuterine.Observation include:
numberoflivingfetusesandintrauterinemortality,theweightandlengthofbody,
the weight and length of placenta, morphological malformation, and skeletal
structure.TheaccumulatedquantitativedatawereanalyzedbyANOVA(Analysis
ofVariance)andcontinuedbyDMRT insignification level5%.Qualitativedata
wereanalyzeddescriptively.living fetusand increasepercentageof intrauterinemortality.All treatments can
decreaseweightand lengthof thebody;decreaseweightand lengthofplacenta;
cause morphological malformation such as dwarfisme, flexion, and pale skin;
caused kiphotic in columna vertebralis; an ossification delayed in cranium, os-
parietal, os-interparietal, os-supraoccipital, os-basioccipital, os-nasal,vertebrae
lumbalisandlimbbones.
