× ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to know the effect of different soil compositions and NPK fertilizer concentrations on growth and nitrate reductase activity of jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas L.). According to the aim of the research, the experiment used randomized complete block design with two factors consist are NPK fertilizer and soil composition with 3 replications. The first factor is NPK fertilizer with 4 different concentrate, they are 0 gr/cm2 , 0,002 gr/cm2 , 0,004 gr/cm2 , and 0,006 gr/cm2 , and the other factor is soil composition with 4 different composition, they are soil, soil : sand (1 : 2), soil : sand (1 : 1), and soil : sand (2 : 1). The treatment is done in 8 weeks. The growth parameters observed were plant height, fresh biomass, dry biomass, Shoot-Root (S/R) ratio, nitrate reductase activity analyze, soil texture analyze, and NPK analyze in soil. The data obtained were analyzed by General Linear Model Univariate and followed by DMRT with 5% confident level. The result of this experiment showed that the combine of fertilizer and soil composition gave significantly different in height plant, fresh biomass, dry biomass, and Shoot-Root (S/R) ratio but it was not significantly different on nitrate reductase activity. The highest growth and nitrate reductase activity shown by the combination of NPK concentrate in 600 kg/ha with soil composition soil : sand (2 :1 ).
